This Cookie Policy is drawn up in accordance with current legislation on the protection of personal data (European Regulation 679/2016 or GDPR, Legislative Decree 196/2003 or Privacy Code, specific Guidelines of the Italian Data Protection Authority and of the EDPB – European Data Protection Board) and integrates the information provided through the Privacy Policy. It outlines the types of cookies used and any other tracking technologies used on the site.

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT COOKIES

Cookies are short text files, consisting of letters and/or numbers, allowing the web server to store information on the client (the user’s web browser) to be reused while visiting the website (session cookies) or afterwards, even after a number of days (persistent or cookies). Cookies are stored, according to the user’s preferences, by the browser on the specific device used (computer, tablet, smartphone).

Cookie types

Cookies may be categorized according to the duration:

  • Session cookies – they expire at the end of a browser session, usually when it is closed, and are used to keep the browsing session active on the site and the use of its features.
  • Persistent cookies – they are stored for a longer period (therefore they persist even if the session is closed) and are useful, for example, to remember navigation preferences (language, device, browser, etc.) or to offer personalized content.

Another feature is the provenance of cookies, which can be:

  • First-party cookies – are stored under the same domain you are currently visiting.
  • Third-party cookies – are set by a website other than the one you are currently on (e.g. if the site includes other services, such as advertising providers or analytical tool providers).

Finally, cookies can be distinguished also on purpose:

  • technical or necessary cookies
  • functionality or preference cookies
  • analytical, statistics and performance cookies
  • marketing or profiling cookies

Technical cookies can be used without the user’s consent, as they are necessary to perform some operations or the same would be more complex and/or less secure. This category also includes first and third party analytical cookies, but only under these conditions: they are used for aggregate statistics (without identifying the user) and refer to a single site or app; in the case of third-party cookies, at least the fourth component of the IP address must be masked; the third party cannot combine the analytical cookies minimized with other processes (e.g. customer files or statistics of visits to other sites) nor can they be transmitted to other third parties.

Functionality or preference cookies allow the user to navigate according to a series of selected criteria (for example: language, geographical area, device used, type of browser, products selected for purchase) to improve the service rendered at the same. These cookies are not necessary for the site to function, therefore appropriate and prior consent must be requested for their installation.

Analytical or statistics cookies are used to improve navigation on the site by analyzing user activity, both anonymously and by tracking the visitor (e.g., number of users on a page, number of times the page has been visited by the user, how much time stops on the page, etc.). They are also called performance cookies and can be assimilated to technical cookies only if configured with reduced identifying power (in this case they do not require prior consent and it is possible to keep them always active).

Marketing or profiling cookies are designed to create user profiles and are used to send advertising messages in line with the preferences expressed by the same in the context of web browsing or to improve the browsing experience. Of course, these cookies are not necessary for the site to function, and a specific consent is required for their installation.

Finally, there are specific cookies for Social Network, which allow the user to share the contents of the site on their social profile. When a page contains this command, a direct connection is established with the selected Social Network (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.).

Cookie consent rules

If the site uses cookies other than technical ones, a banner of adequate size and immediate appearance must be implemented which contains:

  • summary information on the use of cookies on the site
  • link to Cookie Policy text
  • command to close the banner without giving consent
  • command to accept all cookies
  • link to another section to choose analytically which cookies to accept

Cookies could also be completely deactivated at the browser level using the appropriate function provided in most navigation programs. However, it is good to know that by disabling cookies some of the site’s features may not be usable, services provided by third parties such as: YouTube videos (or other video sharing services), social buttons Network, Google maps.
